Taxes, Tarriffs, and Politicians

In today's segment, Shlaes discusses how Hoover should have known better than to sign the Smoot-Hawley tarriff--among other foolish regulation (watch here).

What I found most interesting that Shlaes compared Hoover to Michael Bloomberg and Arnold Schwarzenegger as someone who entered politics after they had been successful in other fields. According to Shlaes, Hoover's support of the tarriff was because it was in the party platform.
